Cooper Timm, LPC, QMHP

“If you love life, don’t waste time, for time is what life is made up of.” – Bruce Lee

Cooper believes that psychotherapy is an avenue for self-exploration, conflict resolution, and healing from adverse experiences. He believes that by taking part in self-exploration with someone who is non-judgement and authentic, a person can heal from the negative experiences of the past and move through life with joy and confidence. Cooper believes that the therapeutic relationship that is made in the therapy space can foster greater resilience for future experiences life may throw.

Cooper has true regard in the work that he does, and that the human spirit is inherently resilient.

He holds himself and his clients accountable, while also providing the support and empowerment they may need through difficult times.

In his personal life, Cooper is married and enjoys spending time with his four fur babies. He is an
avid frisbee golfer, loves to play music, and enjoys spending time with his family and friends.

Cooper earned his master’s degree in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from South Dakota State University in 2023 and is a Licensed Professional Counselor. He has been heavily involved in the Rapid City mental health world since 2018, and enjoys his community outreach work and voluntary service. He is certified as a CBI-SUA and MRT group facilitator, and is a Nationally Certified Counselor. He is also a generalized EMDR practitioner, and works with many individuals experiencing mental health symptoms caused by an adverse or traumatic event.

Throughout his career, Cooper has worked in emergency rooms, inpatient psychiatric units, college campuses, residential treatment homes, and outpatient clinics providing mental healthcare to a wide variety of individuals.

Cooper’s therapy approach is broad, as he utilizes a variety of evidence-based practices that match each of his clients. His therapeutic techniques are heavily influenced by Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing (EMDR), Existential-Humanistic Psychotherapy, Reality Therapy, and a client centered Individual Psychotherapy approach.
